Senior Secondary Education in Assam

Senior Secondary Education in Assam is not compulsory however many students chose to study the Senior Secondary School programme. Passing senior secondary opens the gates for University Education and early entry to the job market. Generally, admission to senior secondary schools are offered on the basis of merit based on Class 10th. The duration of the senior secondary programme is two years. Senior Secondary is also called Higher Secondary or +2.

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) is administering authority for +2 level education provided by the state.At this stage students can chose for General Secondary or Vocational Secondary courses.

1. English-Core, 2. Environmental Education
2. Any one of the following Modern Indian Language (MIL) subjects:
a) Assamese, b) BODO-MIL, c) Hindi-MIL, d) Nepali-MIL, e) Urdu-MIL, f) Khasi-MIL, g) Garo-MIL, h) Mizo-MIL, i) Manipuri-MIL j) Hmar-MIL k) Bengali MIL, l) Karbi MIL
