Rabindranath Tagore University (RTU)

A public state university, Rabindranath Tagore University is situated in the Assamese town of Hojai. The Rabindranath Tagore institution Act, XXXIV of 2017, which was approved by the Assamese State Legislature in 2017, founded the institution. On October 16, 2017, the then-Governor of Assam signed the Act into law. It was formed by modernising Hojai institution, a general degree institution located in the Assamese district of Hojai, which was founded on July 11, 1964. In 1913, Sri Rabindranath Tagore—an Indian polymath who worked as a poet, novelist, dramatist, musician, philosopher, social reformer, educationist, and painter during the Bengal Renaissance—became the first Asian and non-European recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature.

With the approval of relevant statutory bodies and councils, Rabindranath Tagore University is now recognised by the UGC as an institution "empowered to award degrees as specified by the UGC under section 22 of the UGC Act 1956 by conducting courses through its own departments, its constituent colleges, and/or through its affiliated colleges in regular mode." Additionally, the educational institution offers distance learning courses through the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU).

RTU Academic Session

Exams for the odd semester start in August, and even semester classes typically start in January.

RTU Examination

Examinations during the odd and even semesters are typically held in December and May, respectively.
