In Assam post graduation is now treated as the basic level of education to pursue a job or appear for competitive exams. If one want to pursue higher studies and research then postgraduate degree is mandatory. The universities in Assam conducts Post Graduate entrance exams for admission to various courses such as M.Sc / MA /M.Tech/ M.Com/M.S/ M.LISc, etc.
Post-graduation can be pursued in any stream - Science, Humanities, Commerce etc. Students studying engineering can pursue M.Tech after their B.Tech and doctors can complete their MD after MBBS or an equivalent qualification.
